Ever wondered if 0 is even? The answer is yes. But why?
An even number is any number that can be divided by two with no remainder. Let’s check: 0 / 2 = 0. No remainder at all.
Still not convinced? Imagine pairs of socks. An even number means everything pairs up perfectly. Zero socks are still perfectly paired. Mathematically, zero fits the definition perfectly.
There is also a more formal way to see it. An even number is any integer that can be written as 2k, where k is an integer. Since 0 = 2 × 0, and 0 is an integer, zero satisfies the definition. Zero also sits between −1 and 1 on the number line, both of which are odd. Even and odd numbers alternate, so zero has to be even to keep the pattern intact. So next time someone asks, you will know: zero is even.
